As every month, although this time with a day delay for various reasons, we have to talk about the cumulative updates of Windows 10. Yes, the Microsoft operating system present in more than 1 billion devices will continue to be updated at least until 2025. This time we talk about the patch KB5006670 that reaches the latest versions of Windows 10 under update 19041.1288, 19042.1288 and 19044.1288. It’s the same patch for the last three versions of Windows 10, let’s see what include.
What’s new in Windows 10 patch KB5006670
This cumulative update addresses issues with News and Interests, as well as unexpected closings in Outlook. In addition, it has solved a series of problems in the Windows 10 Taskbar that we had been dragging on since last month. Of course, Microsoft has highlighted a correction above these that we have indicated:
- Fixed an issue that prevented some applications, such as Microsoft Office and Adobe Reader, from opening or stopping responding. This occurs on devices that are subject to Microsoft Exploit Protection for Export Address Filtering (EAF).
Windows 10 had a problem with the widget News and interests on the taskbar and Microsoft has admitted new issues. Let’s remember that at the beginning of this year we had a problem whereby this area was blurred. This bug affected the latest builds and seems to be finally resolved.
Cumulative update known issues
- Devices with Windows installations created from custom offline media or a custom ISO image might have Microsoft Edge legacy removed by this update, but not automatically replaced by the new Microsoft Edge. This issue only occurs when creating ISO images or custom offline media by integrating this update into the image without first installing the Independent Servicing Stack (SSU) update released on March 29, 2021 or later.
- To avoid this issue, make sure to first embed the SSU released on March 29, 2021 or later into the custom offline media or ISO image before embedding the LCU. To do this with the SSU and LCU combo packages now used for Windows 10 version 20H2 and Windows 10 version 2004, you will need to extract the SSU from the combo package.
- After installing the June 21, 2021 update (KB5003690), some devices cannot install new updates, such as the July 6, 2021 update (KB5004945) or later. We will receive the error message “PSFX_E_MATCHING_BINARY_MISSING”.
