Studio Ghibli is preparing a mysterious collaboration for lucasfilm. A project that, perhaps, could take the talents of the revered Japanese studio… to a galaxy far, far away?
The animation house famous for producing some of Hayao Miyazaki’s most acclaimed films (Spirited Away, princess mononoke, the amazing wandering castle) or Isao Takahata (The fireflies’s grave, Pompoko, The Tale of Princess Kaguya) today published a tweet that turned both fans of Japanese animation and the production company chaired by Kathleen Kennedy upside down.
The publication, without any kind of accompanying comment, shows a video of just 15 seconds that opens with the Lucasfilm logo, immediately followed by the Studio Ghibli logo.

While we don’t have any further details on what the alleged collaboration between the two companies might entail, the potential answer that fans are most excited about is Star Wars: Visions.
The first season of the animated anthology showed us in 2021 a total of nine short films inspired by the George Lucas universe, and created with total creative freedom by seven Japanese studios: Trigger, Kinema Citrus, Kamikaze Douga, Science SARU, Production IG and Geno Studio.
A second volume of Star Wars: Visions is in development with plans to release in the spring of 2023. Although Lucasfilm announced that creators from other parts of the world will now participate, Japan is still among the countries involved. Will Ghibli be one of those studios?
While we wait for the answer, we remind you that Studio Ghibli’s filmography is available through Netflix in Latin America.
