With the upcoming premiere of the prequel series Welcome to Derry, which will be tied to the It universe (That), started on the big screen by Andy Muschietti, many people are wondering if the episodes will feature the return of Bill Skarsgård as Pennywise. Now, the actor has given an answer.
The subject of his participation in the production, which is currently preparing to start filming, arose as part of an interview with the channel Jake’s Takes. At some point in the conversation, he questioned the actor about it and this is what he said:
“Yeah, yeah, we’ll see what they come up with and what they do with it. I, for now, am not involved«.
In addition to these statements, Bill Skarsgård took the opportunity to offer his advice to the person who is going to replace him in the role, if indeed the decision is made to dispense with his acting talent. His words reveal his fascination with the original novel written by Stephen King:
«If someone else manages to do it, my advice would be: do it your way, make it your own, have fun, you know what I mean? What I found so pleasurable about that character was how incredibly abstract he was.”
To this he added:
“If you start reading Stephen King’s cocaine-filled book, you think, ‘What the hell?’ I mean there are so, so many weird tantrums and abstractions that you can sit down and figure out, and that’s what I did with the character, and I really enjoy that aspect of it, and building the character.”
Welcome to Derry It will feature episodes directed by Muschietti himself, and it also has King’s blessing. Ready to float and enter a town full of mystery? For now, the return of Bill Skarsgård as Pennywise is not officially confirmed. We will have to wait to find out what happens in the coming months.
