Yesterday, August 29, was the last day to add funds to the Wii U eShop and 3DS through prepaid cards. In this way, it has also been announced that these two consoles have received their first update of 2022, which prepares them for the definitive closure of their digital stores.
In the case of Wii U, we are talking about version 5.5.6, while 3DS users can already enjoy the 11.16.0-48 update. Both improvements are focused on “general system stability and other minor tweaks” on consoles.. However, renowned data miner OatmealDome has provided additional information.

For the Wii U, there’s talk of improvements to the menu and user options, while on the 3DS we find changes to the digital store, web browser, and buddy system module. Similarly, both consoles have used this update to prepare for the final closure of the eShop on March 27, 2023.

It’s a real shame that the Wii U and 3DS eShop is about to close. Although there are still a couple of months to go before this will definitely happen, with yesterday’s update it is already impossible to add funds to your account, so if you did not do it before, you have missed hundreds of games that are very worthwhile.
