Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba is one of the most popular anime of the moment, and it is not for less, since it has a cast of amazing characters with whom we grow very fond, and that is why today we will delve into a curious aspect about one of these, the choice, Inosuke Hashibira.
Something that seems quite curious to us is that, Inosuke Hashibira, is one of the greatest enigmas of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba. Little is known about the life of this character apart from the small clues that the anime has dropped along the way. He is a character that is hard to miss; mispronouncing everyone’s names, gobbling up their food without caring about dinner etiquette, and his aggressive nature are characteristic traits of Inosuke.
However, Inosuke’s signature staple is the boar’s head he wears on top of his own. In a series filled with eccentric characters, Inosuke’s unique appearance really stands out. So what’s the deal with this stylistic choice?
First impressions
When Tanjiro and Zenitsu travel to the Tsuzumi mansion to rescue some children from the demon Kyogai, his blood demon art changes the direction and location of the mansion’s rooms and corridors. The pair discover Inosuke dressed in his boar’s head towards the end of these events, who ended up trapped in the mansion due to Kyogai’s blood demon art mix-up.
After the three of them escape with the children, Inosuke attempts to kill Nezuko, unaware that she is Tanjiro’s sister. In true Inosuke fashion, she picks a few fights with Tanjiro and Zenitsu, brags about her athletic prowess, and misremembers everyone’s name.
Why the boar’s head?
To him, his mother was a pig who raised him. He eventually passed away, so it’s possible that Inosuke wears a boar’s head as a keepsake of her. This would explain why he almost never takes it off, the head is familiarity and comfort. Everything seems to indicate that wild boars are his family.
Since Inosuke was raised by wild animals, it wouldn’t be surprising if he adopted their way of life. In nature, some animals perform various means to protect themselves from other animals that may harm them. In Inosuke’s case, he may be using the boar’s head to be as scary as possible to ward off any impending danger.
His wild personality and fighting style also complement the wild animal sitting on Inosuke’s shoulders. A recurring joke in Demon Slayer is Inosuke’s surprisingly handsome face. It’s comical that someone as rude as Inosuke has the most delicate facial features of all the characters.
Her gorgeous face has been the target of many comments and events throughout the anime, which infuriates Inosuke. It can be argued that perhaps by covering his delicate face with something as terrifying as a boar’s head, he will avoid comments on his face. Alternatively, it’s possible that Inosuke may want to completely hide his human face from the world. After all, if his mother is a boar, surely he is too.
