The second episode of the third season of The Mandalorian revealed dozens of details of the Star Wars universe and Mandalore. But without a doubt, one of the most surprising moments was seeing Bo-Katan (Katee Sackhoff) using the dark saber with much more ease, while Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) still doesn’t know how to use the weapon.
In fact, the episode is responsible for making the differences between the two characters very clear when it comes to the dark saber. We had already seen the problems that Din Djarin had with difficulties in the fifth episode of The Book of Boba Fett. There it is explained that, in order to use it correctly, an absolute focus of body and mind is required. Something that, clearly, the Command does not finish getting.
But Bo-Katan does. Part of the reason, it seems, is that while she’s already ruled Mandalore and has far greater confidence in her abilities, Din Djarin hasn’t. In fact, throughout the episode he once again makes it clear that he continues to beat himself up for breaking the Mandalorian code by removing his helmet and revealing his face during the season two finale of The Mandalorian.
Why Bo-Katan returns the darksaber to Din Djarin in The Mandalorian
One of the theories about the third season of The Mandalorian it is a possible battle between Bo-Katan and Din Djarin to rule Mandalore. But after using the dark saber, she returns it to him, without any problem at all. Most likely, her code of honor prevents her from fighting with an ally.
That does not mean that in the future there will be a confrontation between the two characters to maintain or recover the government of Mandalore. But for now, and from everything we’ve seen during the second episode of the third season, they are allies. In fact Bo-Katan saved Din Djarin twice.
Recall that Din Djarin obtained the dark saber after defeating Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) during the season two finale. This was created by Tarre Vizsla, the first Mandalorian inducted into the Jedi Order. In addition, it is the only black lightsaber, becoming the symbol of the Mand’alor, sole leader of the Mandalorians.
Following Tarre Vizsla’s death, the weapon was kept in the Jedi Temple until it was stolen by members of House Vizsla during the fall of the Old Republic. Subsequently, it was transmitted from generation to generation until Darth Maul he murdered Pre Vizsla and obtained the gun.
Later the lightsaber passed into the hands of Sabrine Wen who trained with the weapon under the guidance of Kanan Jarrus. After defeating Gar Saxon she became the rightful bearer of it, but later offered it to Bo-Katan, as she considered her the rightful person to rule Mandalore. But after the great purge of the planet, it ended up in the possession of Moff Gideon, who has made his appearance since the first season of The Mandalorian.
Sabrine Wen is expected to appear in the first season of Ashoka and possibly during the third season of The Mandalorian. She will be played by Natasha Liu Bordizzo, who we have seen before in The Voyeurs (Prime Video) and dayshift (Netflix).
