Do you consider yourself a person who sleeps well or badly? Regardless of what your answer is, you have probably noticed that since you turned 30 everything has gotten worse.
It turns out that significant worsening of sleep is an unfortunate fact of aging for many people , and it begins at a relatively tender age. Mark Barna of Discover Magazine says that many older people have unhealthy sleep due to age-related physiological changes . These changes can begin as early as the 1930s.
Barna paints a pretty depressing picture of the things that happen in our bodies that cause all this:
It begins in the 30s, mainly for men. Delta sleep decreases by 50% in some men compared to sleep in their 20s, according to EEGs, or electroencephalography tests. For women, it decreases 25%.
Many middle-aged people and about half of the elderly complain of having trouble falling asleep and waking up repeatedly during the night , and worse, they stay awake for hours. Although men bear the first consequences of sleep changes, women catch up. The postmenopausal women complain of disorders sleep more often than men of similar age.
And unfortunately you can’t do any of this. However, some of the suggestions mentioned by the researchers, is not to go to bed too early and get up at the same time every day. Getting 30 minutes of sunlight right after waking up is also important , because you set the circadian clock in a way that you will feel tired when it is time to go to bed.
