Sam Raimi has chosen Danny Elfman to make the soundtrack for Doctor Strange 2 and now we know why.
The first film of Sorcerer Supreme from Marvel Studios which was released in 2016 had a soundtrack by Michael Giacchino. This composer has participated in other installments of the saga such as the trilogy of spider-man (2017, 2019, 2021) and Thor: Love and Thunder (2022). But Doc Strange 2 has not counted on his work, but has been replaced by the legendary Danny Elfman.
Now sam raimi has revealed why he chose Danny Elfman for Doc Strange 2:
“I loved the music of Michael Giacchino’s Doctor Strange and I’m sorry we didn’t get a chance to work together, but I need Danny Elfman by my side. He’s like my long lost brother and he really is a storyteller. He helps me tell the story with his music, but it was wonderful. He loved the Doctor Strange theme and incorporated it into his musical score, which was really fun for me because Michael Giacchino incorporated some of Danny Elfman’s pieces into the Spider-Man: No Way Home movie.”
In that same interview, Sam Raimi revealed that Kevin Feige was the one who wanted this movie to have some horror:
“That’s really what Marvel and Kevin Feige wanted to do: They wanted to make Doctor Strange 2 their first horror movie, like dipping your toe in water. But it wasn’t supposed to be an earth-shattering terror. It was supposed to be the kind of horror, fear and creepiness you’d find in a Doctor Strange comic.”
