We are only a few days away from the premiere of the Game of Thrones spin-off series, the series called House of the Dragons from HBO, which will have a high death count, but some of the main characters may still survive.
And it is that, we must remember that House of the Dragon takes place 200 years before game of Thronesduring the height of the Targaryen family dynasty, thus having 17 dragons in the prequel series, House of the Dragon may prove to be much deadlier than Game of Thrones, so once the Targaryen civil war begins, the Dance of the Dragons, things are going to get intense.
Since, during this war, the House Targaryens will divide the kingdom between the “black” and “green” parties while the heirs of the King Viserys I Targaryen fight to claim the Iron Throne, it should also be remembered that House of the Dragon is based on the book Fire&Blood of George R. R. Martinwhich dives into House Targaryen’s reign in Westeros, so unlike Game of Thrones, the story that inspired House of the Dragon was completed before the series.
Which means that the end of the war and the fate of the characters are already known, however, as was the case with Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon tends to take a lot of liberties when it comes to the fate of its characters, for which cannot be said with total confidence that all the characters who survived in Fire & Blood will also live through the civil war in House of the Dragon.
We’ll tell you right away, most of the main characters in House Of The Dragon will die, as almost all of the main or recurring characters in House of the Dragon season 1 will not survive Dance of the Dragons, and while some will survive most of the program HBOThey could take a page out of the Game of Thrones book by killing several major characters towards the end of the war.
Now, based on the books, this side story, the characters that die include Laenor Velaryon, Laena Velaryon, and presumably King Viserys I Targaryen, whose death prompts the Dance with Dragons, now as for the main characters of House of the Dragon season 1, those who will die much later in the series before the finale include Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen, King Aegon II Targaryen, Prince Daemon Targaryen, Rhaenys Velaryon (née Targaryen), Criston Cole, and Otto Hightower.
The House of the Dragon series will also feature the deaths of Rhaenyra’s children, Jacaerys, Lucerys and Joffrey, Harwin Strong, Aemond One-Eye, Helaena Targaryen, and Jason Lannister. Some of the most disturbing deaths in the prequel will be those of the Targaryen and Velaryon dragons, most of whom will perish in the battles of House of the Dragon.
So the two most prominent House of the Dragon characters to survive the entire series are Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint), aka Sea Snake, and Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke), where Corlys watches his wife, children, and grandchildren die during the Dance of the Dragons before becoming regent for King Aegon III Targaryen, the eldest son of Rhaenyra and Daemon who succeeds his uncle Aegon II on the Iron Throne. However, Corlys dies of old age in 132 AC, only a year after the end of the Dance with Dragons.
While in the high tower of Queen Alicent, who also saw her husband, children, father, and many of her grandchildren die in the Dance with Dragons, she will also briefly survive the Dance with Dragons, and likewise, Alicent she dies soon in 133 AC of a disease spreading through the realm, and the former queen began talking to herself while isolated in Maegor’s Holdfast.
Some other key characters who survive House of the Dragon include Rhaenyra and Daemon’s children, Aegon the Younger and Viserys Targaryen, so Aegon and Viserys’s older half-sisters, Daemon’s daughters Baela and Rhaena, also live. until the end of House of the Dragon.
Adding that, Alyn Velaryon, a legitimized bastard son of Laenor (though more likely Corlys) survives the Dance of the Dragon and becomes Lord of the Tides of the Velaryon family after Corlys’s death, and many of the key characters will survive the Dance of the Dragons, many of those who make it through only manage to live a short time after the war ends.
