Some Metrobús lines have an exclusive section for women.
The Metrobús is one of the busiest forms of transport for men and women who travel in Mexico City. On several occasions he has been in the midst of controversy over various issues, this time over a video on TikTok where a user complains that women do not sit in exclusive seats, even though there are enough places, which sparked a debate . This is not the first time that the use of exclusive seats has generated controversy.
The Metrobus It is the second most used means of transport in CDMX, during 2021 it mobilized 22 million 200 thousand passengersreported the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), the first place was occupied by the Metro Collective Transportation System (STC), with 63 million 400 thousand users.
Metrobús currently has 7 lines in operation and an emerging service in Tláhuac.
Given the multiple complaints of harassment on public transport, CDMX implemented the use of exclusive cars for women, later they implemented pink seats for women in other means of transport such as the Metrobús and in the Passenger Transport Network (RTP). In the case of the Metrobus, some lines have an exclusive section for women, which is easy to identify by the color of the seats.
On repeated occasions they have carried out campaigns to make the population aware of the use of these seats, which have been disseminated on the social networks of the means of transport.

It is common for users to use their social networks to expose what happens in their daily lives and to make complaints. Currently, TikTok is one of the most used by the population, according to official figures, in Mexico there are 50 million users over the age of 18 who use the application.
They revive debate on the exclusive seats of the Metrobús
A TikTok user posted a video complaining about women preferring to sit in the first seats when there are still enough seats in the women’s section:

This caused a debate in the comments section where they do not agree with the user who shared the video and refer to the fact that women occupy those places because it is a mixed section: ‘My compa, the one who doesn’t know the meaning of mixed‘, ‘the other section is mixed, sorry’ ‘congratulations, you already know the meaning of mixed’.
On the other hand, other users were in favor of the publication, the user @xD1PR0G4M3Dx commented the following
“It is not about being mixed and anyone can be there, it is about empathy and that if you as a woman have the possibility of occupying a seat that a man does not and give him the possibility that he feels the same. […] Yes, the rules are respected, of course, but that is the point, it is not about exclusivity, it is about empathy so that everyone can sit down to rest.
While other users made a comparison with the Metro and pointed out that the same thing happens in this means of transport: ‘The same in the metro, in the women’s section it sometimes comes empty because they all leave in the mixed section’ ‘There it is where you see that empathy is only if it is convenient for them, they are not capable of being kind if it does not represent a profit for them’.
So far the video has 17 thousand 100 “I like it” and 1964 “Comments”.
It is not the first time that the use of exclusive seats has generated debate, a recent case was that of a man who sat in an exclusive seat for women and a user denounced it on her Twitter account and a strong discussion was generated between the complainant and the wife of the man occupying the seat. What caused controversy was the man’s response:
‘There is something called the right to free expression and one is free to choose what one wants to be, if I want to be a woman right now, I am going to be a woman right now. I am a woman. I am a woman’.

It is important to follow the instructions from the authorities to avoid sanctions and also to have empathy to give all users the opportunity to travel comfortably on public transport.
