Almost a month and a half after Everything Everywhere at the same time will sweep the 2023 Oscars, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has revealed all the details for the 96th delivery of the prestigious award. The first rule of thumb for an Academy Award is the release date. All films seeking to be eligible must be released between January 1 and December 31, 2023. The deadline to register films and enter into consideration of the general categories is the November 15, 2023. From there the preliminary vote will begin, from December 15 to 18. The so-called shortlists will be revealed on Thursday December 21.
Once the categories are delimited, from January 11 to 16, 2024Academy members will cast their votes for those favorite films, performances, scores and scripts. On Tuesday, January 23 of that same year, the official nominations will arrive. The Oscar Nominees Breakfast will take place on February 12, 2024, with final voting beginning on February 22. It will be 5 days in which the next prize winners are decided.
So, the ceremony will take place on Sunday, March 10, 2024. In the United States it will be broadcast on ABC, and it is estimated that it will reach more than 200 territories worldwide. The location will be the same as in recent years: the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, California. Until now there is no information about the new driver, but it is estimated that it will be announced in the last months of the year.
It is worth mentioning that this year there is a slight change in the dates of the final vote. Usually, it ended just a few days before the award ceremony. For example, the most recent vote ended on March 7, just five days before the awards were given. On this occasion there will be more days of waiting between one event and another. For the experts it is an important change, since in the days before the ceremony there are usually controversies or comments that move the balance from one side to another. Now, the destination of the winners will be marked 10 days in advance.
