Lovers of the arts and cinema will have a new venue to enjoy the best national and international productions. After the definitive closure of Cinemex CNA, many thought that the place would lose its cinephile identity. However, the future holds good news for regulars at that cinema. There you will find the new branch of the Cineteca Nacional de México.
Alejandra Frausto Guerrero, Secretary of Culture of Mexico City, was the one who confirmed the news (via).
“The cinematographic venue located in @cenartmx will be the new Cineteca de las Artes. This space, previously operated by private initiative, will once again be a public cinema managed by @CinetecaMexico. It will open its doors in the first months of next year.”
The National Center for the Arts will thus have a new opportunity to continue showing films. It was inaugurated in 1995. The event was attended by then President Ernesto Zedillo Ponce de León and Salma Hayek. For a long time, Cinemark was the company that operated the place. In addition, it became the first complex that had 12 exhibition halls. In 2013, the directors of Cinemark decided to sell all of its facilities to Cinemex. This company took over for 9 years. Cinemex CNA closed its doors last August.
The new Cineteca of Mexico City will have 12 exhibition halls. Although the same facilities will be used, a remodeling will be done. This includes new projection equipment and infrastructure, which will attract more and more viewers.
As the Secretary of Culture mentioned, the new cinematographic venue will begin operations in early 2023. In addition, the Trust for the National Film Library will be in charge of the occupation, operation and administration of the place.
Will you attend the new Cineteca in Mexico City? What kind of cinema would you like to see projected on your screens?
John Joseph Cruz I am one of those who always defended Robert Pattinson as Batman and can see the same movie in the cinema up to 7 times. My guilty pleasure? Low budget horror movies.
