QUESTION
I have an eight-month-old girl who has started to get dizzy in the car, even on short trips, so she spends her time crying and uncomfortable. I know there are anti-dizziness pills, but are they appropriate for this age? Are there specific for babies?
ANSWER
Measures to avoid dizziness
Pediatricians are not very supportive of prescribing anti-motion sickness drugs for such young children. But that does not mean that your daughter has to have a bad time. There are a number of measures that can prevent the little girl from becoming dizzy:
? Seat the girl in the middle of the back seat so that she is looking out the windshield.
? Increase ventilation and avoid tobacco smoke, unpleasant odors, and rough driving.
? Make stops along the way, more or less every two hours, to take a breath.
? It is not convenient to feed or drink before traveling (so as not to overload your stomach) or to fast.
? And most importantly: if it returns, don’t be nervous. That does not improve the situation. Better breathe.
If after putting these measures into practice you still get dizzy, talk to your pediatrician to see what he suggests.
