What does the law say about damaged or lost luggage?
In the Civil Aviation Law in its chapter on liability for damages, it establishes the following:
Article 62: Compensation for the destruction or breakdown of hand luggage will be up to 80 Units of Measurement and Updating. For the loss or damage of checked baggage, compensation will be equivalent to the sum of 150 Units of Measurement and Update.
Article 63. For the loss or breakdown of the cargo, the concessionaires or permit holders must cover the recipient or, failing that, the sender, compensation equivalent to 10 minimum wages per kilogram of gross weight, details the text .
The Federal Consumer Protection Agency and the Secretary of Tourism warn that passengers must be compensated for loss or damage to luggage, for destruction or damage to hand luggage with an amount of 6,950 pesos (80 UMA).
In addition, if there is loss or damage to checked baggage, the affected passenger will receive just over 12,000 pesos (150 UMA).
Profeco details that indemnity and compensation payments must be covered within a maximum period of 10 calendar days after the claim.
