Arrested after threatening to commit suicide, the young man had evoked the “possibility of going to another big store” and continuing his murderous madness, local police commissioner Joseph A. Gramaglia told CNN on Monday.
In all, 10 people — ages 32 to 86 — were killed and three others injured at a supermarket in a majority black neighborhood on a weekend marred by violence.
What is white supremacy?
White supremacy is the belief in the natural superiority of lighter-skinned or “white” humans over other racial groups. Currently the term white supremacist has been used to describe some groups that support ultranationalist, racist or fascist doctrines. White supremacist groups have often relied on violence to achieve their goals.
Origin and development
From the 19th century to the mid-20th century, political leaders and social scientists in Europe and the United States took the doctrine of white supremacy for granted. French writer and diplomat Arthur de Gobineau wrote about the superiority of the white race , arguing that the Germanic peoples represented the highest level of human development. According to some 19th century British writers such as Rudyard Kipling , charles kingsley , Thomas Carlyle it was the duty of Europeans to bring civilization to non-white peoples through beneficent imperialism.
Various attempts were made to give white supremacy a scientific basis, as various renowned institutes and scientists published findings affirming the biological superiority of whites. Those ideas were reinforced in the early 20th century by the new science of intelligence testing, which purported to show major differences in intelligence between races. In such tests, Northern Europeans always scored higher than Africans.
Which groups support it and in which countries?
In some countries, white supremacist ideas found expression in the programs of anti-immigrant political parties such as the Front National (Front National) in France, The Republicans (Die Republikaner) in Germany, and the Austrian Freedom Party (Freiheitliche Partei Österreichs) and (since 2005) the Alliance for the Future of Austria (Bündnis Zukunft Österreich).
In 2016, Donald J. Trump’s presidential campaign garnered significant support from white supremacists and so-called white nationalists, who largely disapproved of racism but celebrated “white” identity and lamented the alleged erosion of political power and White economics and the decline of white culture in the face of non-white immigration and multiculturalism.
Hungarian nationalist Prime Minister Viktor Orban denounced on May 16 the “suicide” of the West and reiterated his reluctance to sanctions against Russia, during his investiture ceremony in Parliament.
A “suicide wave” is shaking “the Western world”, which “is experiencing the program of the Great Substitution”, said the 58-year-old head of the Government, referring to a conspiracy theory of the extreme right that maintains that the elites are organizing the replacement of European populations by non-European immigrants.
This “program wants to replace disappearing Christian children with emigrants from other civilizations” and “I see the folly” of gender theories in the same way, he added.
Lastly we have the Proud Boys who are a far right group with a violent mentality. They are mainly misogynistic, Islamophobic, transphobic and anti-immigration. Some members espouse white supremacist and anti-Semitic ideologies and participate in white supremacist groups.
white separatism
White separatism is a form of white supremacy that emphasizes the idea that whites should exist apart from all inferior non-white races, either by establishing a white community somewhere or by eliminating non-whites from among them. Some white supremacists also use the phrase because they believe it may be perceived more benignly by others than the term “white supremacist.”
