In recent days the “Blackout Challenge” put the platform in check.
After the death of a boy under the age of 9 in Baja California and that of 2 girls in Oaxaca associated with a TikTok challenge called “Blackout Challenge”, The danger of social networks for minors was evidenced when parents are not attentive to the games or challenges to which their children may be exposed. However, the challenge of fainting is not the only challenge that has put the lives of TikTok users at risk.
The Blackout Challenge
The challenge that is currently circulating through TikTok is to place an object through the neck and squeeze it enough to lose consciousness. It has even been seen that a person helps to obstruct the breathing of those who accept the challenge for a few minutes with their hands, and then share an experience full of strong sensations.
The trend is not new in the social network, although in Mexico it is causing the first havoc, around the world it has been seen since the beginning of the year. One of the most notorious cases was that of the 10-year-old Italian girl, in January 2021, the minor put a belt around her neck in order to not breathe, while recording the scene with her mobile.
Other dangerous TikTok challenges
The controversy of the dangerous challenges of TikTok was rekindled in Mexico after the events that took place in Oaxaca last Wednesday, when the bodies of two 11 and 9-year-old girls were found hanging from a railing. However, it has not been the only challenge that has put the lives of minors who occupy the social network at risk.
In August in the United States, the challenge of milk boxes became popular #Milkcratechallenge or “Mouthbreaker”, which consists of forming stairs with plastic boxes and going up and down from it, but the instability and high height usually ensured falls and injuries. Despite the risks involved, the hashtag went viral, accumulating more than 71 million views.
