In the world of entertainment and Geek culture there are mountains of content to enjoy in any format you can imagine. But the reality is that the most popular of all, for a long time, was the one in the comics. Marvel and DC Comics are precursors to this phenomenon.
However, with the passage of time and the advancement of technology, what was previously enjoyed as reading began to turn into action on screens. And those two precursors that we talked about migrated to that format.
In the process they were trying with the cinema and they had to live the two sides of the coin: that of failure and triumph. But in this field, Star Wars has not stopped reaping successes.
That is why today, based on a work by Cinemas Comics, we measured these three franchises on their out-of-pocket value based on what the box office brought them. The three made life in the comics and there we know that DC fared better, but in the movies it’s another story.
Marvel, DC or Star Wars?
Let’s see, the thing is like this, for the amount of money Marvel is going to win, since it has a greater volume of films with respect to the rest: 29 in total, counting Thor: Love & Thunder.
DC, counting those in its extended universe, only has 10 (16, if we count 2019’s Joker, Christopher Nolan’s trilogy, Green Lantern, and Superman Returns). While Star Wars only reaches 11 feature films.
So, to make the fairest and most equivalent comparison, let’s make an average that adds up the revenue divided by the number of films.
Individually, Marvel has the highest grossing movie of all with Avengers: Endgame, which grossed nearly $2.8 billion. Second is The Force Awakensof Star Wars with 2,046 million and the best of DC, box office speaking, has been Aquaman with 1,148 million.
Specifically, the third place would be for DC Comics, with an average of 622 million dollars per film.
The silver medal would be for Star Wars, which in its movie universe reaches an average of 922 million dollars per film and the top goes to Marvel, which is close to 942 million dollars per film.
