What the law says about parking in electric car recharging spaces
We all know places where there are charging points for electric cars, which are always associated with parking spaces reserved for their users. Nevertheless, not all of them have the necessary conditions to be legally protected.
The Law on Traffic, Circulation of Motor Vehicles and Road Safety states that the spaces reserved for recharging electric cars must be accompanied by the signal S17. This sign indicates the area in which there is a parking space and must be accompanied by a plate in which its limitations of use are established.
These, in addition to indicating that only vehicles in the process of recharging can park, usually indicate the maximum recharging time, after which it will be mandatory to leave the space and the charger free so that another user can use it.
It will also be valid to use the signals R307 or R308, which indicate the prohibition of stopping, parking or both, also indicating on the attached plate the exemptions and/or limitations. “Except electric vehicles in the process of charging. Maximum time 30 min”, for example.
Fine for parking at a charging point for electric cars
Once the current law is known, it is clear that violating it carries a fine. In this case, said infraction is sanctioned with 200 euros fine without loss of points.
This is applicable not only to non-plug-in vehicles that occupy the space reserved for recharging, but also for plug-in vehicles that are not using the charger or have exceeded the allowed time limit.
Even, according to article 105 of the Traffic Lawyou can order the pick-up and deposit of the vehicle by the municipal tow truck.
Of course, as we have already indicated, it is essential that the charging point is accompanied by the corresponding signs. This is common on city streets, but not in the spaces designated for this purpose in shopping centers, car parks, etc. In these cases, the only thing that can prevent any driver from parking his vehicle is his solidarity or good will.
