We have to start again, leaving the house with an eye on the places that make us feel good, safe. Nearby places, those that we would be able to recognize by its sounds, its aromas, its summer vibes… The summer of 2020 is probably the strangest of summers. A summer in which we have been forced to stop, reset, start again, start from the starting box. Leaving home to return home. To return to our origins, visit the family with a feeling of relief or, simply, to return to those shelters that transmit calm to us.
Everyone will look for that calm wherever they need: in a natural pool along a river, in the village where their parents were born, strolling among the songs of blackbirds on a lost path… or in memory as plastic as that of a nap on the beach, rocked by the splash of the water, by the noise of the children playing in the distance with sandcastles, by the seagulls that stalk us and fly over the sea.
The beach. The sea. Summer. Saltpeter. Watermelon. The can of cold, ice-cold beer. The spare bikini. The umbrella. The book we opened in October with August sand pearls. Those concepts that adorn our cover of July and August and that immediately lead us to outline a smile.
Our beaches now go through peculiar confinement: applications to control capacity, marks on the sand to keep social distance, mandatory face masks on walks… the new normality seems to have taken away certain comforts. But this new normality can never take away the sound of the waves. We want to honor them, as we do every year at Condé Nast Traveler, giving voice to you, avid readers. What is the best beach in Spain? On which beach have you been happy (or are you, right now you are browsing the phone from your hammock stuck in the sandbank)?
Vote and you can win a getaway to Jávea, spending a wonderful night at the new hotel in the Alicante fishing village par excellence: NOMAD Hotel. This is a one-night stay for two in the romantic NOMAD room with sea views, including essential breakfast and experimental cocktails at sunset from the terrace of its Sky Bar. The vote for the best beach in Spain will take place in two phases. In the first, from July 16 to July 30, in which the best beach in each Autonomous Community will be chosen; the second, from July 31 to August 14, in which you will vote the definitive beach, the best in Spain. We will give the result on Monday, August 17.
