Today we are going to explain what the APN is and how you can configure it in the main operators to make the most of any of your mobile rates. You may never have had to configure it or it may have been the case that you had no internet connection without knowing why, being due to the lack of configuration of said APN.

The APN (Access Point Name) is the name given to the access point through which our mobile connects to the internet, so it is one of the key elements when setting up a new phone or with a new SIM card.

What is the APN

APN stands for Access Point Name: access point name. A mobile phone, when connecting to the network, must have the APN defined in order to access a data network based on any of the current standards.

In most cases, the APN is configured automatically. However, it may be the case that it is necessary configure it manually. This access point name depends on the different operators, so each one has a different name. We are going to show you first how to configure it, since it is the same on almost all phones.

How to configure the APN

In the case of Android, configuring the APN is very simple. In each ROM this section will be in one place, although it will always be found within the network and SIM card settings section. In order not to get lost, open your Android settings and, in the search bar, type ‘APN’ or ‘Access Point Name’.

When you enter the menu, you can both edit the current APN and create a new access point, the most recommended option to configure the APN from scratch. Here you will find a huge list of data to fill in, but you only have to complete a few.

The procedure to configure the APN is identical on both iOS and Android. We go to settings and configure it from scratch

If we have an iPhone the procedure is identical. We just have to go to settings, mobile data, options and mobile data network. Here you will find the same fields to fill in as in Android, since the APN is identical in one system as in another.

Next, we are going to share the official instructions of each operator to configure the APNs. If a field to fill in does not appear, it is because you must leave it as is, just fill in the fields as indicated by the operators.
