What is Microsoft Edge Kids Mode?
The Kids Mode is a feature that came to Microsoft Edge during this year 2021. It is a special mode that adds some functions for children and allows parents to set controls to monitor and authorize what your children can do online.
This new feature of the popular Microsoft browser is totally independent of the use of a child profile in Windows. That is, it is not necessary to have a child user profile managed on your computer to use this mode in Edge; it is a very easy change applied directly in the browser.
How to enable kids mode in Microsoft Edge
Starting the Kids Mode in Edge is much simpler than you imagine, you will only have to comply with the following steps:
- Open the browser Microsoft Edge on your computer. You can even install it on your Chromebook and open it from there.
- Then click on the your profile icon at the top right to open the menu.
- Here, click Browse in Kids mode.
- You will see a new window with some information about this function, click on Begin.
- Please note that when starting Kids Mode your current browsing session will be saved and closed, so make sure you have saved any pending work. However, you will be back to where you were once you have closed Kids Mode.
- If you are using this function for the first time, you will have to select the age of your child.
- Here, the two options are 5-8 years or 9-12 years. The only difference is that the 9-12 year option displays links to interesting news and articles for children at the bottom of the page.
- After selecting an age range, Edge will open in Kids Mode and your kids will be ready to sail.
After activating Kids Mode in Microsoft Edge
After activating the function, when you enter the browser you will see an imaginative background on the home page, with a search bar at the top that gives you access to the Bing search. Meanwhile at the bottom of the screen you will find shortcuts to certain kid-friendly web pages, and you can even add your own recommendations.
You can also change the browser wallpaper, choosing one of the available options, including some with the best Disney characters. In addition, Kids mode opens in full screen, so you have to move the mouse to the top of the screen to access the tab bar, and they can even learn to use the vertical tabs in the browser.
To exit this setting, click the X in the upper right corner as you normally would, or the banner in the upper right corner and select Exit the Kids Mode window. You should know that, regardless of the method you choose to exit this browser mode, you will have to enter the password for the computer administrator.
