You have probably seen the image of an arrow when hovering over a button or tab on your Windows system. These images are part of a series of files and that is why in this article we show you what it is and how to open or edit CUR in a simple and fast way?
What is a CUR file?
“.CUR” is an image file that Windows uses to create a cursor and display the position of the cursor on the screen. These run when the mouse performs different tasks.
Characteristics of CUR files
CUR files contain images that are used to indicate the actions that the user performs with the mouse. In Windows, the default CUR file is an arrow, although a hand with a finger pointing towards a link or an hourglass can also be seen when the system is executing a task. These files allow you to customize and change the color of your mouse cursor.
CUR files can be modified using different graphic editors. Often times, the image must have a square dimension with a very small size measured in pixels. In fact, it is possible to use any image of another format and convert it to a CUR file.
What is it and how to open or edit CUR easily and quickly?
Windows contains a series of CUR files that we can access in order to view the images they contain or edit them according to our preferences. If you want to open and/or edit a CUR file, follow each of the steps that we explain below.
Open a CUR file
To open a CUR file in Windows , you must go to the start menu and select “Settings.” Click on the “Personalization” section and in the panel choose the “Themes” option. There, you must press “Mouse pointer settings”.
You will see a new window with several tabs. Click on “Pointers” and hit the “Browse” button. Immediately, the “Cursors” folder will open. This folder contains the entire list of Windows CUR files. Select one of these files and press “Open.” From this window you can change the mouse pointer and even put sound on it in Windows 10.
Use the ‘RealWorld Cursor Editor’ editor
If you prefer to edit a CUR file, you need the graphical editor ‘RealWorld Cursor Editor’. To access this tool, go to the Rw-designer website.
Select the Windows application and locate the “Download” section. Then click on the installation package and wait a few minutes for the download to complete. Click on the .msi file extension for “RealWorld Cursor Editor” to install on your computer.
Edit the CUR file
To edit the CUR file with RealWorld Cursor Editor, you must import any CUR file of your choice so that it is added to a grid in the program. Modify colors, sizes, shadows, and shapes before saving changes. The file will still have the .cur extension and you can add it to the Windows list.
Use the editor ‘Axialis Cursor Workshop’
‘Axialis Cursor Workshop’ is another graphical editor with which you can easily edit any CUR file. However, this tool is not free, so you can only take advantage of it in a limited way with the “Trial” version or access all the editor’s features through the paid version.
To use the Axialis Cursor Workshop editor, press the “Download Trial” button and wait while the installation file download completes. Run this file and access the editor from your PC.
Edit the CUR file with Axialis Cursor Workshop
The operation of Axialis Cursor Workshop is similar to that of RealWorld Cursor Editor, but the former has more powerful editing functions.
To use this editor, press “File” and select “Open”. Open the CUR file that you want to modify to create transparent areas, choose only a section of the image, or apply shadows. On the other hand, if you don’t want to use editors, you can customize the mouse or mouse cursor in Google Chrome, which can also be useful.
