As notified by IT Home a few weeks ago, Xiaomi has taken over the entirety of DeepMotion —Not to be confused with the American Deep Motion.
And what does that mean? That Lei Jun’s company will from now on have a native autonomous driving technology, which up to 20 people from this company will be directly involved in the manufacture of the new vehicle Xiaomi smart,
Who are DeepMotion
At first glance, DeepMotion describes itself as a “provider of autonomous driving solutions”. Its headquarters are located in Beijing (China) and has a staff of approximately 200 full-time workers.
It was founded in 2017 by four young investors, Chi Zhang (R&D Director), Kuiyuan Yang (Director of the scientific department), Rui Cai (CEO) and Zhiwei Li (CTO). And, as its nickname suggests, its main field of action is “iterative evolutionary intelligence software.”
A way of describing what they are capable of through different sensors – ultrasonic radars, fisheye cameras and GPS positioning modules – and their own data manager in the cloud, the Cloud-Car, whose archive houses thousands of high-resolution maps and different simulated scenarios on them.
They have two key pillars in their product portfolio:
- Autonomous Valet Parking, a mobile self-directed navigation and positioning tool that detects free spaces and drives to them. This program is compatible with Renessa, TI, NVIDIA, ARM and other chips.
- IntelliSense, a complete software suite under which different functionalities are grouped, such as high precision positioning. the crowdsourcing system for high precision maps and others.
This software, IntelliSense, complies with the ISO 26262 standard, the framework under which different electronic security tools are included for vehicles not exceeding 3,500 kg in weight.
Xiaomi’s autonomous vehicle
Let’s not forget that a survey carried out by Xiaomi on Weibo revealed that the type of vehicle most desired by users is a sedan or an SUV. The vote also showed the company’s intentions: that the vehicle will not exceed the minimum and maximum price ranges of 100,000 to 300,000 yuan, 13,100 euros and 39,210 euros at the change.
It is clear that the vehicle that Lei Jun longs for will take a long time to arrive, but it will do so clothed with cutting-edge technology and the best possible tools. to turn Xiaomi into a powerful player in the automotive market for the next few years.
