With this victory, the team led by Lucho Horna will meet again between September 15 and 17 for a new Davis Cup World Group I series and thus dispute their pass to the 2024 Qualifiers, along with 243 other nations (12 losers from the February Qualifiers and 12 Playoff winners). Of course, the next rival of the national quintet will be known sooner: on Thursday, February 9, there will be the draw for the keys at the offices of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) in London.

Gonzalo Bueno, Ignacio Buse, Brian Panta, Arklon Huertas del Pino and Conner Huertas del Pino made up the team that faced Ireland for the 2023 Davis Cup. (FPT)

Of the 23 nations, the ‘bicolor’ will face one of the 12 best positioned in the Davis ranking. According to the latest update, the seedings of the draw and the possible rivals of Peru will be Germany (5th), Kazakhstan (14th), Belgium (16th), Argentina (18th), Colombia (19th), Japan (20th), Hungary (22nd), Austria (24th), Slovakia (25th), Norway (26th), Romania (27th) or Brazil (28th).

Although the ‘sele’ achieved a position in the ranking (now it is located in box 34), it was not enough to be one of the 12 best seeds in World Group I, so it will share ‘hype’ with Bosnia & Herzegovina ( 29th), Portugal (30th), Israel (31st), Uzbekistan (33rd), Turkey (35th), Ukraine (36th), Chinese Taipei (37th), Lithuania (39th), Bulgaria (41st °), Greece (42°) and Denmark (45°).

Depending on the rival that touches us, it will be known if Peru will be local, visitor or if an additional draw will be needed to define the field. At the moment, only three rivals guarantee Lucho Horna’s team to compete at home: Argentina (we were a visit in the last series in 1986), Colombia (we were a visit in 1997) and Romania (we were a visit last year). While in an eventual key against Brazil, we would have to go to play as a visitor to the country of the zamba (in the last key we were local in 2006).

Meanwhile, if the national team is paired with Germany, Kazakhstan, Belgium, Hungary, Japan, Austria, Slovakia or Norway, the fate of the field will be defined by an extra draw. Regardless of the venue or rival, Peru will seek in this instance its pass to the Qualifiers next year, this being the last step before the Davis Cup Finals.
