What is the candida auris fungus?
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) notes that candida auris or C. auris is an emerging fungus that “poses a serious threat to global health” for three main reasons. The first is that it is often resistant to the most appropriate antifungals used to treat fungal infections of the candida species.
The second is because of how difficult it is to detect it, as it can be mistakenly identified as another type of fungus, unless specialized laboratory technology is used. This can cause the patient to receive the wrong treatment.
The third is its spread in hospitals and nursing homes. Candida auras has caused outbreaks in medical facilities and is spread through contact with infected patients, contaminated surfaces or equipment.
These are the symptoms
Candida auris causes bloodstream infections, wound infections, and ear canal infections. It is difficult to diagnose it because patients often suffer from underlying conditions.
