The end of the fourth season of succession it may represent a before and after for all the actors and staff involved in the production. Within that group of people, one of those who is likely to feel the most affected is the creator of the story, Jesse Armstrongwho referred to the meaning of the closing of the story for him.
Jesse Armstrong’s journey with succession began before the production opened in 2018. From that year onwards, there were four seasons. It was a story that did not stop growing through its deliveries. To a large extent, this has to do with the vision of the creator, who from the beginning set out to make a compact and coherent series with what he was proposing from a narrative point of view.
Therefore, regarding the end of successionwas encouraged to say: “I never thought this could go on forever. The ending has always been on my mind and I said to the cast, ‘I’m not 100 percent sure, but I think this is it.’” Given the impact that production has had on television in recent years, Jesse Armstrong’s doubts seem more than valid. However, going a little further, what does this conclusion represent for him?
Succession is only available on HBO Max
Jesse Armstrong and the end of succession
As part of the content related to succession, Max offered a exclusive content in which you can see Jesse Armstrong reflecting on the last chapter of the fourth season and the HBO series. In that video, the creative said the following:
“It feels wicked to finish it because it has been incredibly meaningful.. I love this cast, working with the crew and with my fellow writers. I’ve had some of the happiest moments of my career being in the writers’ room, writing alongside them. I’m kind of a romantic, really. I like the family atmosphere and the relationships we have among all of us”,
Jesse Armstrong.
However, beyond this emotional message, it was necessary to close the stage, from his point of view. He explained it this way:
“But one of the few things I can be really tough on is protecting the show, its integrity.. The more we discussed it (the end of succession), it was clearer that it had to be with the sequence of Logan’s death (Roy), the competition between selling (the business empire) or not, along with the election (presidential, within the story), and the funeral, ending production. Once I was clear about it, there were no doubts about it. I had a lot of sadness. But it was kind of: ‘Alright. this is how it should be‘”,
Jesse Armstrong.

succession, in essence, is the story of how personal interests can collide with an idea of family. Based on this premise, the characters involved mutate throughout the seasons, addressing different crossroads and conflicts, at the same time that they have to attend to an inevitable destiny. A fifth installment is not planned nor is the realization of any spin-off. The four seasons of this series can be seen on HBO Max.
