With the 5-0 win over Perugia last weekend, including a double for ‘Bambino’, the team led by the experienced Claudio Ranieri established itself in fifth position in Serie B. A very important victory, as it served to ensure a place in the promotion playoffs. Completing the first goal set at the beginning of the championship.
Despite this great first step, the ‘Rossoblu’ squad goes for more and aims for fourth place. This with the purpose of avoiding the preliminary phase, which means arriving with 90 minutes less for the semifinals of this instance. Before thinking about any results from their rivals, they will need to beat their last two rivals Palermo and Cosenza.

The scenarios to reach Serie A
Currently, Cagliari is four points away from the long-awaited fourth place, occupied by the revelation of the Sudtirol competition, an institution that participates for the first time in the second division of tano football. The most accessible way to stay with that place will be to register the six points in their two commitments and that Sudtirol does not add any unit.
From what has been seen in the season, it will be unlikely that the red-and-whites will fall to Cittadela (L) and Moderna (V). However, there may also be the possibility that they draw and lose to these rivals. With this, Cagliari will only need to add four points, since they would end up equal in points, but they would go ahead for having a better goal difference.

The other option will be to resign yourself to being in the fifth or sixth box. If this happens, they must play 90 minutes against the team that finishes in eighth (5th) and seventh (6th) position. The possible rivals to face this tie are Parma, Palermo, Pisa, Venezia and Ascoli. Of all these clubs, only Parma is the only one that can take fifth place from him in the last two rounds remaining in Serie B.
If they reach the semifinals through the previous phase, they could face Sudtirol, Parma and Bari. While if they arrive directly being fourth, the list of possible opponents is longer, since they will have to wait for the winner of the key between fifth and eighth place. As can be seen in the following table.

Does the ‘Bambino’ move?
Lapadula has been fundamental for Cagliari throughout the season. Not only because he is the club’s and the championship’s top scorer, but also because he has signed 40% of the goals that the Sardinians have this championship. This makes him a key player for the team, now and in the future. Therefore it will be very difficult for him to change squad for the following season.
This is how Alberto Masu, a journalist who covers the day-to-day life of the ‘Lapagol’ team, explains it: “Gianluca is too vital for the team. Whether in Serie A or Serie B. Lapadula will stay at Cagliari, where he has a contract until 2025. Unless other incredible offers arrive, but as of today I don’t think so”.
A week ago the information slipped out that the ‘9’ of the Peruvian National Team could put on the AC Milan shirt again. However, for Giuseppe Amisani of the daily Corriere Dello Sport, this is something very unlikely to happen.
“At the moment there is no talk of the transfer market. Lapadula has already been a Milan player in the past and it is unlikely that he will return to the ‘Rossoneri’ also because he is not very young anymore. If Cagliari were to return to Serie A, there would be no doubt that Lapadula would be in charge of leading his team’s attack after leading it to promotion. I think they will hold on to a striker like him because he has already shown in the past that he too can be a key player in Serie A.”he explained.
