The cost of living index of the Mexican capital is 71 points, taking as a reference that the reference cost is that of New York (equal to 100). And living in CDMX is more expensive than living in Portland or Boston, two cities that, by the way, will also host the 2026 World Cup.

One of the findings of the latest report on The Economist is that prices increased on average 8.1% in the world’s largest cities. It’s the fastest rise for at least 20 years, reflecting a global cost-of-living crisis sparked by the war in Ukraine and ongoing health restrictions in China due to the pandemic.

For this reason, the Russian cities of Moscow and St. Petersburg also raised their living costs substantially. Moscow climbed 88 positions and now ranks 37th among the most expensive, St. Petersburg ranks 73rd, after climbing 70 positions. All due to the war and the depreciation of the ruble after international economic sanctions.

But other cities in the United States are also suffering, Atlanta, Charlotte, Indianapolis and San Diego also climbed more than 30 positions in the ranking.
