In recent years, health systems have managed to provide broad protection and certainty to their populations that, in the face of illness and eventual loss of life, they will have quality services, dignified care, palliative care, and even assistance for good. die. In Mexico, there is still a long way to go to address the enormous public health problems that, before the pandemic, were already very serious. Next we will analyze what are the fundamentals.
INSABI failure
He INSABI (Health Institute for Well-being) has not been able to consolidate itself as a new pertinent care scheme. Not only did the model not work, but the path has generated serious consequences for millions of people and, particularly, the most vulnerable, including children with cancer. In addition, the epidemiological panorama of the country is serious and the diabetes epidemic continues to grow and, in addition, the hospital conversion to attend to COVID19 neglected and left aside the provision of follow-up medical services.
Neglected public health problems
In Mexico, some public health problems remain without being adequately addressed. Among these, we can highlight adolescent pregnancy, whose rates have not been significantly reduced. Also noteworthy are complaints of domestic violence and sexual crimes, as well as violence, something that seems endless in the country.
Mental health in oblivion: another of the public health problems in Mexico
Associated with two of the factors described above, there are some phenomena such as traffic accidents and suicide. Far from having diminished, they follow a growing trend that puts at risk not only the health and lives of people who are intentionally injured or involved in traffic events, but also the physical integrity and emotional health of people in their immediate surroundings.
