It’s no secret to anyone that James Gunn gave Marvel Studios the break it needed. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 It has not only achieved very good box office figures, it has also been a success in critics and public opinion. The latter was very necessary, especially after disappointing tapes like Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and Thor: Love and thunder. The problem is that the last Guardians tape sealed Gunn’s farewell to Marvel, and he will embark on a new path as the leader of DC Studios.
During his participation in the SVB MoffettNathanson technology, media and telecommunications conference, David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros Discovery, launched a severe comment towards the study led by Kevin Feige. Zaslav acknowledged that Gunn delivered enormous success for Marvel, and that led him to question why he was never offered the position he now holds for the company many see as his rival. These were his words (via TheWrap)
“What we try to do is get some really great leadership. Our company philosophy is that we don’t want people to go to meetings, we want people to get the job done. When I met with James Gunn, he was writing ‘Superman’ and had written ‘Guardians of the Galaxy,’ which is now a huge success for Marvel. We’re happy Gunn wrote that movie and directed it. I see her and I say to myself: ‘Why doesn’t this guy run Marvel?’ He grew up his whole life with DC, his whole life with these Marvel characters and he knows every one of them, they are his family. This is the guy we want and everyone wants to work with him.”
To support Zaslav’s words, many users of social networks have praised Gunn’s work at the helm of the galactic trilogy, and more than one assures that it is the best in the entire MCU. If we add to that the fact that the three films of Guardians of the Galaxy have received good reviews and a great box office, perhaps Marvel could have trusted the director’s talents for the next phases of their universe, especially now that they are going through critical moments.
Even Gunn himself has stated that he collaborated on other projects beyond his films. Recently, the filmmaker confirmed that he has served as a consultant for various projects. Kevin Feige himself sent him the tape scripts as Spider-Man, Doctor Strange and Captain Marvel to give notes on how to improve the story. With this it is evident that the president of Marvel trusted the creative talent of the now CEO of DC Studios.
Regarding the plan they have with DC properties in the coming years, and which will be led by Gunn and Peter Safran, Zaslav added this.
“We have a 10-year plan. Superman is written, we are in an early part of the casting. He (Gunn) and Safran are authentic. We worked very hard on Flash and Black Adam. Flash is a fantastic movie, it comes out in six weeks. We think we’ve turned around in the movie business. We’ll see if we’re right. We now have movies that we like, that, when we test them with audiences, are doing very well. I believe in DC a lot, ”he finished.
Do you agree with David Zaslav? Do you think James Gunn has what it takes to have led Marvel Studios? Would he have saved the studio from the creative debacle he finds himself in?
Juan Jose Cruz I am one of those who always defended Robert Pattinson as Batman and can see the same movie in the theater up to 7 times. My guilty pleasure? Low budget horror movie.
