Volvo has started serial production of its new electric car. The Volvo C40 Recharge is already being manufactured in Europe. Specifically, production is taking place in the facilities that the brand has in Ghent (Belgium). A vehicle production center that is called upon to play a leading role in the electric offensive that the company has launched.
Volvo’s first series-production electric vehicle was already being manufactured at these facilities. We are referring specifically to the Volvo XC40 Recharge. Taking into account the great technical relationship between the two models, it was logical that the production of the new C40 Recharge would also take place in Ghent. Now both models are leaving the assembly lines.
Volvo is already manufacturing its new electric SUV in Europe
The Swedish manufacturer expects that by next year 2022 more than half of the vehicles produced at its Ghent factory correspond to 100% electric models. In addition, to meet the growing demand for its new models, Volvo is increasing production capacity at these facilities to 135,000 units per year.
The Marketing of the new C40 Recharge is underway. It was months ago that Volvo opened the order book for its new electric. In the first commercial stage, the brand has given priority to those European markets where the electric vehicle is most popular. That is why it began with Norway, the Netherlands, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
In Spain, to celebrate its launch, the special First Edition is marketed. The price of the new C40 Recharge is approximately € 53,000. It is powered by two engines that develop a total power of 402 hp and 660 Nm and are powered by the energy stored in a 78 kWh battery. It has all-wheel drive and a range of 420 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle.
Volvo’s 100% electric future
The C40 Recharge is Volvo’s second fully electric model and the latest in a series of new battery electric vehicles to hit the market over the next several years. Looking to 2030, Volvo aims to market only pure electric cars, an ambitious electrification strategy. In addition, by 2040 the company plans to become a company with no impact on the climate.
Another of the short-term goals that the company has set itself is that 50% of its global sales correspond to fully electric vehicles by 2025. It will be the first step towards becoming an exclusively electric car manufacturer by 2030.
