Has been unveiled the second generation of the Amarok. The brand itself warns us that everything is new. And we are facing a comprehensive renovation. However, despite the depth of the changes that have been made, Volkswagen has not wanted to break the existing ties with the previous model. That is why, although it sports a more modern image, it is quickly recognizable.
The design of the new Volkswagen Amarok 2023
Just take a quick look at the images published by Volkswagen to discover how the exterior design of the Amarok has changed. The company itself defines it as a very powerful aspect. Starting our tour of the exterior at the front, we will find a generously sized grille that connects directly with very narrow, horizontally arranged LED headlights. Horizontal crossbars add personality to the look.
Depending on the configured version, the new Amarok is equipped as standard with some IQ.Light headlights. The front bumper is key to transmitting a great presence. Nor should we ignore the huge defenses. Below the Volkswagen badge you can see the model name. The side view brings out the natural essence of this pick-up. A model that will be offered in two body variants: Double Cab and Single Cab. You can fit alloy wheels from 18 to 21 inches.
Finishing our tour of the exterior at the rear, we must underline the shape adopted by the taillights. They draw a letter C and are slightly enveloping, moving away from the design that the rear lights of pick-ups usually have. The name Amarok can also be read on the tailgate that gives access to the cargo box. The brand warns that a rigid roof will be available in the range to better protect the load.
In terms of personalization
the new Amarok is well served, being able to choose between different wheel designs and up to eight colors for the bodywork, some of them metallic.

The interior and technology of the new Volkswagen Amarok 2023
Leaving aside the exterior, if we enter the interior of the new Amarok we will quickly find ourselves enveloped by a digital and connected environment. The most complete versions will undoubtedly boast technological equipment. The “nerve center” of the passenger compartment is a huge touch screen up to 12 inches. A key component to drive the new infotainment system compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
The mentioned touch screen is combined with a 12-inch 100% digital instrument panel. The most basic trim levels will feature digital instrumentation with an 8-inch screen and a 10-inch touch screen, respectively. Among the most outstanding equipment we have USB connections, Bluetooth, a keyless entry and start system, a wireless charger for compatible mobile phones and a Harman Kardon sound system.
The list of driving assistance systems it is equally wide. The most outstanding technologies are adaptive cruise control, involuntary lane departure warning, lane keeping assistant, emergency braking and traffic sign recognition.
Volkswagen places special emphasis on the fact that the changes that have occurred in the measurements have been decisive in creating a more spacious cabin. In the inside the new Amarok can travel up to five adult passengers. There are a large number of storage compartments scattered around strategic areas.
The engines of the new Volkswagen Amarok 2023
Regarding the mechanical section, diesel is the protagonist in the new Amarok range. However, it will not be the only option available. Volkswagen will launch the new Amarok, depending on the market, together with a selection of four TDI diesel engines and one TSI petrol engine. In many countries, for example European markets, all versions will feature a 4Motion all-wheel drive system as standard.
The power range covers from the 150 CV of the access motorization to the 302 CV of the most efficient alternative. Depending on the selected engine we will find a manual or automatic gearbox.

The access diesel engine with 150 hp associated with a five-speed manual gearbox and a rear-wheel drive system is intended for African markets. In selected markets, the 170 hp 2.0 TDI engine will also be offered with a six-speed automatic gearbox and rear-wheel drive. The ten-speed automatic gearbox available for the 204 hp 2.0 TDI diesel engine has “by-wire” technology.
The 4Motion all-wheel drive will come as standard in Europe. Depending on the market and engine, there will be two different 4Motion systems. On the one hand we will have a permanent all-wheel drive system and, on the other hand, a selectable all-wheel drive system in any relevant situation.
The permanent all-wheel drive system is equipped with an additional two-speed electromechanical transfer case, which is coupled to the manual or automatic transmission. The driver can select four different modes to adapt the operation depending, for example, on the road situation. For its part, the selectable 4Motion all-wheel drive system provides three driving modes and uses an electronic transfer case that also engages the main gears and transfers torque when needed to the front and rear wheels.
Like the previous model, all versions of the new Amarok have an 80-litre fuel tank. The TDI models have seen the size of the AdBlue tank increased from 6.3 to 19.3 litres.
