MADRID (AP) – Arnaut Danjuma scored in the fifth minute of injury and Villarreal rescued a 3-3 draw against Cádiz in the Spanish La Liga on Tuesday, despite a hat trick by Anthony “Choco” Lozano.
Dutchman Danjuma achieved equality with a shot inside the area, to prevent the team led by Unai Emery from suffering what would have been their third consecutive loss in La Liga.
Despite the three goals from “Choco” Lozano, Cádiz extended their streak to six games without winning. The Honduran scored twice in the first half and once in the second half to give the visitors a two-goal lead until Boulaye Dia pressed the score in the 80th minute.
Pau Torres had equaled the duel for Villarreal in the first half.
Cádiz has achieved only one victory this season, and is one point out of the relegation zone. With two wins, Villarreal remained in twelfth place.
ATHLETIC LOSES OPPORTUNITY
Athletic Bilbao settled for a 1-1 draw against Espanyol and missed an opportunity to get close to the lead.
The Basque team had won two consecutive duels and could have come within two points of the leader Real Sociedad with another victory.
Raúl de Tomás opened the scoring for the Parakeets by converting a penalty in the 33rd minute. Iñaki Williams equalized for the visitors at 52.
De Tomás was expelled in the discounts, after an altercation.
Espanyol were undefeated in three games, during a streak that began with a home win against Real Madrid.
ALAVÉS WINS AGAIN
Alavés beat Elche 1-0 to spin their second win and leave the relegation zone.
Mamadou Loum scored the only goal at the start of the second half.
Alavés had lost five games in a row at the start of the campaign, before beating the defending champion Atlético de Madrid. He placed himself on the 16th rung, two points above the relegation zone.
Elche suffered its second loss in three games and is 15th.
This Wednesday, Barcelona will try to recover from the defeat it suffered at home against Real Madrid in the classic. He will visit Rayo Vallecano of Colombian Radamel Falcao, who has won all four of his campaign games as host.
Madrid can displace Real Sociedad from the top if they win at home against Osasuna.
