PlayStation surprised us today by announcing that tomorrow, September 15, a new update will be coming to the PS5, which will finally allow us to use the SSD memories in this console. To complement this information, A video has been shared explaining how to install one of these storage pieces.

To carry out this process, you need:

-A well-lit room with a table to work on.

-A # 1 Phillips head or cross head screwdriver.

-A small flashlight (optional).

Before beginning the installation process, touch a grounded metal object to remove static electricity from your body. Otherwise, the M.2 SSD or PS5 console may be damaged. It is important to mention that a heat dissipation mechanism is required, such as a heat sink or heat transfer foil. An M.2 SSD could come with these parts or you may need to purchase them separately.

Below you can check step by step the installation process for the memory:

-Shut down the PS5 console. Next, remove all cables and devices from the console. Wait a moment for the PS5 to cool down.

-Place the console on a flat surface with a protective cover and remove the base.

-Place the PS5 so that the PS logo is facing down and the power button is facing away from you.

-Use your right hand to grab the edge of the lower right corner and your left hand to grab the edge of the upper left corner of the cover.

-Gently lift the cover with your right hand.

-Slide the cover with your left thumb while using the fingers of your left hand to stabilize the PS5 console.

-Remove the screw from the expansion slot cover, and then remove the cover

-Carefully remove the screw. Move the spacer to the slot corresponding to the size of the M.2 SSD

-Hold the edge of the M.2 SSD, align it with the notch on the expansion connector, and then from a diagonal upward position, push it firmly into place.

-Tilt the M.2 SSD down and fix it with the screws. Make sure the cooling system is not blocking the screw.

-Put on the expansion slot cover and tighten the screw. If the slot cover does not close properly, the cooling system is likely to exceed the size requirements.

-Reinstall the cover by placing it slightly away (about 2 cm or 3/4 inch) from the top edge and sliding it back into place. When the cover is attached, you will hear a click.

-Connect the AC power cord, cables, and cradle, and then turn on the console.

-When the console is turned on, the formatting guide will appear. Follow the instructions on the screen and format your M.2 SSD

The PS5 update that allows the use of M.2 SSD memories will be available tomorrow, and here you can learn more about what will be offered.
