Talking about Coca-Cola without thinking is Mexico, it is impossible, because the brand’s soft drink has become an important part of Mexican life. Given this, it is not surprising that Mexican political figures have stories to remember with the brand, as is the case with Vicente Fox, former Mexican president who in a new interview recounted his career in the soft drink brand.
Various estimates indicate that after the United States, Mexico is the most important market for this soft drink firm, where of the total volume of products destined for Latin America, 47 percent is purchased in this country.
According to a Business Insider article, a Mexican drinks an average of more than 700 cups of Coca-Cola a year, about twice the consumption of Americans.
In Mexico, the main Coca-Cola bottlers are the Monterrey-based FEMSA and Arca Continental, and according to data from euro monitorthe soft drink company sold between 35 and 40 billion dollars in 2017.
Vicente Fox recounts his career at Coca-Cola
Recently, the former Mexican president, Vicente Fox, recalled his career at the Coca-Cola company, where he began as a delivery boy until he became director of the brand.
Through an interview conducted by Nayo Escobar for his YouTube program, the former president and also a businessman, narrated that he began working for the company in 1965 as a local distributor.
“For 15 years I was director of Latin America for Coca-Cola. I climbed from a route salesman, from delivering Coca-Cola in the changarros, we delivered them in boxes, some returned 24. I climbed two on each side and still told the assistant give me more teachers, “he recalled in the program on the platform digital.
Likewise, Fox recalled that he left university and started working at Coca-Cola, because they were the only ones who answered his job application.
“Among the requests I sent was Ford and Coca-Cola, but Ford offered me more wool, there were three 500 pesos a month and Coca-Cola offered me three thousand pesos a month.”
“He arrived at Ford in Reforma and I arrived wearing jeans and plaid shirts, he arrived without a tie and they told me that I have to wear a tie. They lent me one and I worked that day and I was thinking about it, wearing a tie every day that’s not for me, “adds Fox in the interview.
The businessman remembers that while he was in his position as a distributor in the American company they gave him five pesos per day. “I worked on Sunday, on Sunday on the road, I loved foreign routes,” he said.
He explains that he had no conflict that despite graduating with a degree, he was working as a delivery man. “I didn’t have it, I think that knowledge helps a lot in this life, doing a university degree helps a lot. But I am more grateful to Coca-Cola for those three years than the five I was in college”, he explains.
