Epic Games has held a conference in which it has wanted to offer Unreal Engine 5 new details, its new graphics engine that today becomes available for download. Thus, two years after its announcement and almost a year after starting its early access, the founder and executive director of the company, Tim Sweeney, has wanted to present more features of the engine that promises to offer greater freedom, fidelity and flexibility when it comes to to create content and worlds in real time.
Unreal Engine 5 already has two free samples that can be downloaded to appreciate the new features of the graphics engine. The first one is called CitySample, a preview of how the world of The Matrix Awakens: An Unreal Engine 5 Experience was created, previously released on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC. The title surprises with its photorealistic environments full of buildings, vehicles and NPCs. The other sample is Lyra Starter Gamea first person shooter game.
Crystal Dynamics confirms a new Tomb Raider
Beyond the many details offered for developers and the general public, the surprise of the conference has come from the hands of Dallas Dickinson, general manager of the Tomb Raider franchise of Crystal Dynamics. “We are proud to be a part of the release of Unreal Engine 5. This new engine translates to next-level storytelling in gaming experiences.“, has started. “That is why we are delighted to announce today that we have just started development on our next Tomb Raider game powered by Unreal Engine 5“.

The Coalition also shows its tests with Unreal Engine 5
Although the announcement of a new Tomb Raider has been the highlight of the Epic Games conference, it is also worth noting the participation of The Coalitionin charge of the Xbox Gears of War franchise, you wanted to show your most recent demo with the graphics engine. Called “The Cavern,” it shows how elements created with the engine have a movie-like quality, being created with tens of millions of polygons that can be rendered in real time with a massive 100x advance in graphical detail.
