- The Aldo Moro University of Bari in Italy has launched an initiative which seeks to digitize all the cultural art of Puglia in order to make it part of the world of non-fungible tokens and the metaverse.
- One of the first steps in this project is the creation of the first “digital library of Italian culture” by means of NFTs.
- The project will be presented during the event, Apulia Blockchange, an event focused on blockchain and the projects developed by this technology.
Since Mark Zuckerberg announced the change of name of his company from Facebook to Meta, to make the next big goal of his firm clearer, many people, as well as consortiums, have been interested in the new virtual space called metaverse.
This new digital environment, in the style of Ready Player One or The Sims, allows people (or will allow, since it is still in an early stage of development) to interact with others in a social and economic way, as they would in life real, but by means of avatars, through a logical support inside a cyberspace.
Because the new space has virtually no limits or the limitations of the physical world, it is that people from all over the world can interact as they have done until now, but in a more personal way.
This has given a great idea to cultural and educational institutions, to publicize their functions as well as the culture they represent. This is the case of the Aldo Moro University of Bari in Italy, on the European continent, which, taking advantage of new technologies, decided to take the next step towards digital and launch an initiative in order to improve the cultural heritage of Puglia, through the metaverse.
Through this initiative, all the cultural art of Puglia, southern region that forms the heel of the “boot” of Italy, it will be digitized in order to become part of the world of non-fungible tokens.
One of the first steps of this project is the creation of the first “digital library of Italian culture” by means of NFTs. This step will represent both for the university students and for the locality, a before and after in the cultural aspect, since it will give way to a new interaction with art, through new immersive experiences.
One of the characteristics of the metaverse is its possibility of being a parallel universe, a much more inclusive space in various aspects, which is also possible, in part, thanks to blockchain technology, which has allowed changing the way of think of many people and has reinvented existing processes.
Speaking of the university environment, the metaverse will allow everyday situations such as conferences, courses, meetings and orientation activities to have both their traditional format known by students, as a new presentation accessible to anyone anywhere in the world.
The way the university plans to promote its new space within the metaverse is through the Apulia Blockchange a festival is run by the Department of Humanities of the university itself, Being the first of its kind, and using the blockchain, the cornerstone to support non-fungible tokens, the metaverse has already Virtual realityelements that, as mentioned above, have the purpose of preserving the culture of Puglia.
Another reason why this initiative is expected to generate a stir among society is that the project will be carried out by leading figures from all over Italy, such as eNFTree, Vrainers, Artemaestra, Lab 2.0 Hubcom and Cattive Productions.
These companies specialize in the creation and development of digital products, which will guarantee that all the elements that make up the culture of Puglia become digital works.
Like icing on the cake the event will end with the auction of the NFTs and the delivery of one of these tokens to the Rector of the University Stefano Bronzinifor being the symbolic protector of the physical and digital culture of this region of Italy.
