The problem of shadowban
Recently, the CEO of Twitter, Elon Musk, stated in his official account of the social network that currently his team of work is developing an improvement in the software of the application so that users are notified in the event that their account is affected by the application of a shadowban against it, which is defined when the publications stop being displayed.
According to the also owner of Tesla, this update on the Twitter system “It would not only act as a notification that an account has been affected by this, but it would also give resources to users so that they can understand the reason or, if necessary, appeal the decision of the social network.”
Faced with this problem, Instagram will also notify users with shadowbanwhich will start the implementation of a similar system in which users are allowed to know the status of their account and if it has been affected by the shadowban application, although the social network developed by Meta names this feature as “recommendations”.
According to the statement published on the application’s official blog, This feature will be specifically targeted at people who manage professional accounts so that they can understand more about the status of the content that is published on their profiles.
“We expanded Account Status so users understand when their content is eligible to be recommended to non-followers and what they can do about it,” the text reads.
This Instagram function is already active and you can see some of the recommendations it gives the social network in order to prevent the content that is produced from being classified as “not recommended”.
In this sense, the operation of the social network with this tool makes three details in this regard that must be taken into account by users. The first mentions that people can check if their content is recommended in sections like Explore, Reels, and Feed Recommendations. In addition, it is stated that if an account’s posts are not recommended, it is possible that some of the details in the profile go against the recommendation guide.
“It is important to us that creators can know if something they have published or that they have on their profile may be affecting their reach to non-followers,” the official publication of the social network indicates.
