Everything indicates that Twitter is working on the privacy function most desired by users, which will put an end to many controversies.
Throughout life we evolve. Our personality, our beliefs and our speech change as the years go by, and many of the things we say at any given moment we stop feeling over time. But today our words are not blown away and may turn against us in the future.
Cases often come to light of politicians, journalists, athletes, artists and other celebrities who, in the past, defended in Twitter opinions radically opposed to the current ones. And when these old tweets are rescued by users, sometimes real scandals take place.
The same thing can happen to any of us: any unfortunate tweet published 10 years ago can be expensive and make, for example, the company you have applied to finally decide not to hire you.
Today, to prevent other people from reading what you wrote years ago, you have to manually delete all the publications one by one that you don’t want to keep. You also have the possibility to protect your profile, but in this case the users who follow you will continue to have access to them.
For this reason, the ability to hide old tweets is one of the privacy features most demanded by users. Agree with Bloomberg, Twitter has listened to users and this feature could be on the way and coming very soon.
According to the report, the social network will allow users to archive posts after a specified period of time, which could be one, two or three months, or a full year.
In addition, Bloomberg claims that this new feature will not arrive alone, but will will be accompanied by a series of new “social privacy” features that are intended to make users feel more comfortable interacting on Twitter.
Among these new social privacy features will be the ability to hide tweets that you liked, remove yourself from a conversation in which you do not want to participate, or remove followers without having to block them completely.
Twitter has confirmed the information in a statement to The Verge, where it ensures that will start testing some of the aforementioned features from next week. However, at the moment the company has not announced what options will be available or if they will reach all users.
The platform is in a constant process of renewal and has recently launched new features, such as Safe Mode to eradicate hate on the social network or Super Follows so that creators can monetize their content.
