Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and ruling Ak Party officials met earlier this week to discuss the metaverse, with the president calling for a thorough investigation into the matter.
Erdoğan would have urged the Ak Party to study the metaverse, cryptocurrencies and how transactions are carried out using them, according to a report by Daily Sabah.
In a meeting on January 25, party leaders were instructed to investigate the phenomenon with significant ramifications for the future. It is anticipated that the economics of the metaverse, cryptocurrencies, and social media will be addressed in a forum that will later be hosted by the ruling party.
In Turkey, the metaverse is gaining interest. According to some reports, thousands of virtual territories in Turkey, most of which are set in the old historical capital of Istanbul, have already been bought from game-based metaverse platforms.

As Cointelegraph reported, the Turkish government recently entered the metaverse to discuss cryptocurrency legislation. The President of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Mustafa Elitaş, said then: “I think metaverse-based gatherings would quickly improve and become an essential part of our lives.”
While the Turkish government is open to blockchain technology, the metaverse, and a state-issued digital currency, President Erdoğan is known for his harsh opposition to cryptocurrencies.. Last year, during a public question and answer session, he “declared war” on cryptocurrencies, implying that the country had no interest in adopting them.
