The Laughing Cow has announced the launch of two vegan flavors of their famous cheese wedges. On December 8, dairy giant Bel Brands USA continues its cheese veganization project with the launch of The Laughing Cow Plant-Based.
The brand, which is owned by Bel Brands USA, is known for its triangular shaped cheeses which are individually wrapped in foil and served in a round box. Come on, what we all know as “quesitos”. Dairy-free versions, which come in original and garlic and herb flavors, will feature similar designs and packaging. In this way, the classic wedges can be added to a cheese board along with some grapes and figs and nuts or spread on toast and sandwiches for a special bite.
Each flavor is made with a base of almond milk, with ingredients including coconut oil, sunflower oil, pea protein, and seasonings. They are also fortified with vitamin B12, a great recurring theme in forums, blogs, medical practices and/or associations dedicated to vegetarianism and veganism.
Babybel Plant-Based and Boursin Dairy-Free are added to Bel Brands USA’s commercial portfolio, two plant-based alternatives to its satellite brands. In a statement, the Bel group promises that the brand’s new dairy-free products will continue to have a texture and flavor similar to its counterpart animal based. For now, they will launch in Whole Foods stores across the United States and will cost $5.49 per pack. However, we believe that the brand will expand its horizons towards Europe as there is great potential in these markets.
Along with the debut of the cheese spreads, Bel announced a partnership with Perfect Day, a fermentation company that replicates dairy proteins without the use of animals. One example of the collaboration is brand Nurishh Incredible, who is also introducing an alternative vegetable spread with sunflower seeds.
