Since Taika Waititi has taken over Thor, things have changed in the MCU. Some say that the changes in the tone of the character have been positive, while others now take it as a joke. the premiere of Thor: Love and Thunder it only complicated things. It is one of the worst rated films in the MCU, and it already has a large number of detractors for its forced comedy, bad visual effects and terrible decisions with some characters.
Waititi has been characterized as an irreverent director, that is clear to all of us. and now he is Andy Park, Director of Visual Development at Marvel Studioswho gives his opinion on the director’s ideas when starting Thor: Love and Thunder (via).
“It was so much fun going back into the world of Thor with Taika because I know when I work with him, it’s quite a journey. It is fun. He constantly jokes around and is really entertaining. But his ideas are very extreme and go everywhere. He is not afraid to try something.”
What ideas can you refer to? In the last tape of the God of Thunder we could see a series of quite controversial decisions. There were raucous goats, a “new” design for Korg, kids with powers, Zeus became quite a colorful character, and we even saw a spectacular black and white battle.
“There were times where we were scared (by his ideas) and we were like, ‘Ahh, I don’t know that might be too much in terms of design.’ So he’d throw us around and say, ‘Hey, let’s go for it.’ Whether that becomes the final design or spins us backwards, we wouldn’t have found that point without going to the extreme. In a nutshell, that’s Taika more or less.”
It is worth mentioning that a few weeks ago an idea removed from Thor: Love and Thunder. Taika Waititi mentioned BBC Radio 1 who wanted to include Jesus Christ as one of the gods that appeared on the tape. Although the idea did not come to fruition, we can assure you that this character would have generated even more controversy among critics and the audience.
