The rule of 20 km / h that thousands of drivers use to overtake on secondary roads will not be eliminated by the General Directorate of Traffic after thinking better. But let’s not claim victory yet.
All of us who have driven on back roads know how hard it is to come across a truck, tractor or van that is not going as fast as it should.
And, as in national and traditional roads, visibility is worse, in addition to having only one lane in each direction as a rule, andhe overtaking becomes a maneuver that can be dangerous if we do not perform it very carefully.
Luckily for the drivers, the DGT on these roads (which went from having a speed limit of 100 km / h to the current one of 90 km / h) allows us to increase the speed of the vehicle in order to perform the maneuver more quickly and shorten the time of danger.
The speed that allows us to exceed the DGT is up to 20 km / h over the limit, which means that we can reach up to 110 km / h effectively on the road. For later, of course, reduce to the mandatory 90 km / h.
Well, this standard measure It was one of those that the DGT wanted to eliminate in the face of the new Traffic and Road Safety Law, since in the words of the General Directorate of Traffic almost all accidents occur on these roads due to speeding (even though we have the best data in our history).
Now that the Law has begun to be discussed, with all the other measures it raises, It is possible that in order to be able to approve it in its majority the parliamentary group of Government decides to postpone the elimination of the rule of 20 km / h.
This is because Ciudadanos, ERC, Plural and VOX have opposed, and they would only welcome the rest of the measures if this is deleted.
And everything seems to indicate that this will be the case. So drivers should not worry, at least for now, about overspeeding when overtaking on national roads.
