The National Association of Environmental Health Companies (ANECPLA) warns of possible pests of black fly because of the heat wave that started last week.
The life cycle of this insect can be reduced by half when it is very hot, thus producing a population growth and, consequently, a increased bites.

Experts warn that this type of fly can be found especially in the river banks, where it reproduces.
To learn to distinguish it from the common fly, the black fly (Simulium spp) is smaller and elongated than usual.
Measure between 3 and 6 mm, and has the shorter legs and the bigger wings.
Aragon, Catalonia, Valencian Community and Madrid are some of the communities most affected by this plague.
A very painful bite

The experts’ forecasts are that the virulence of this insect keep expanding year after year throughout the Spanish geography.
This advance will be made while the climate change keep softening winters and reheating summers.
However, as recognized by ANECPLA, the prevention work they are especially important in minimizing their impact.
Tips to avoid a black fly bite

- Dress in light clothing, without too bright colors that can attract swarms.

- Avoid the accumulation of water outside the house and keep the water tanks covered.
- Check the drains.
- Use certified repellants, especially those containing citronella.
- Contact professionals.
