Six singles from the album will be released on streaming platforms starting July 8.
The 18 tracks on the album, called “TikTok Classics: Meme and Viral Hits” will be available in streaming and in stores in August.
Anyone who has snooped a bit on the famous short video social network will recognize songs like “No Roots” by Alice Merton, or the piano song “Pieces” by Danilo Stankovic, seen by more than 3.4 million users.
“Hearing ‘No Roots’ in a new musical context is inspiring,” Alice Merton said in a statement. “I am excited about this project and can’t wait to see how it will come to life.”
All the songs were covered by the German musicians of the Babelsberg Film Orchestra.
Among the chart toppers is the party-beat, flute-filled “Monkeys Spinning Monkeys,” which has more than 27.1 million streams.
Also “Wellerman Sea Shanty”, which invaded TikTok in early 2021, after a Scottish postman, Nathan Evans, recorded himself singing this 19th century folk song.
The song quickly went viral, and Queen’s Brian May and celebrated songwriter Andrew Lloyd Webber are among those who proposed adapting it.
