After the cancellation of E3 2020 due to the pandemic caused by COVID-19, it began to become very common for third party companies to start holding their individual conferences, thus denying the great shows to be the absolute protagonists and those who decided the times to present their new games. However, it seems that this year there will only be big conferencesaccording to Geoff Keighley, the creator of The Game Awards and the Summer Game Fest.
In a Twitter Space audio session (transcribed by VGC) Keighley said this was because publishers have less content to justify their own events. Therefore, it seems that the companies will most likely appear at big shows, such as Summer Game Fest 2022 itself or the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase.
This year there will only be big conferences, according to Geoff Keighley
“There were a lot of shows last year where everyone was disappointed when they weren’t really press conferences, right? Like Take-Two, Capcom, Square Enix and things like that. I think [ellos] They’ve learned that if you’re going to do a press conference, you need to have 30+ minutes of stuff, and sometimes they only have one or two big games to show, which may not be enough to do a full event. Keighley said. “So I think that’s going to be a bit of a change. I have a pretty good idea of what’s to come in the next month, and I think people will be excited about games in general.”.
Confirmed the date of the Summer Game Fest
Regarding the Summer Game Fest, noted that there would be about +15 guests on the show. Some members of the media will also be getting hands-on with some of the games. “I don’t think people are necessarily going to get everything they want in June, like they never do, but I hope people have fun. It’s just going to be different, and that’s what I keep telling people: This isn’t replacing E3, it’s a different kind of vibe and feel to things. I don’t make the games, so I just sit here and pray there’s some cool stuff to show people.”.
To finish, Keighley assured that there would be many trailers during the celebration of the Summer Games Fest, as well as gameplays of many of the games that are present. Thus, it seems clear that this year there will only be big video game conferencesleaving aside those small events that the journalist cited.
