In case you didn’t know, Guillermo del Toro and James Cameron are old friends. Long before the sequel to Avatar outside a reality, the two directors have even shared a house and watched anime together every night.
The two directors met around 1992, thanks to a mutual friend. None other than actor Ron Perlman, who has already worked with both of them. Since then their relationship has been one of great respect and affection. The man from Guadalajara even spent a few months at Cameron’s house.
For this reason, it would not be strange at all if the two share confidences and advice about their projects. Recently in light of the long-awaited return to Pandora, Cameron revealed (via) the advice his friend Guillermo gave him regarding his new movie. To tell the truth, more than advice, it was about inviting him to a tradition that according to the director is very Mexican.
From Del Toro Cameron learned how to teach the material to other colleagues and friends. Thus, the opinions and considerations based on his reactions could contribute to improving the final result.
“Directors are like lone wolves,” Cameron said. “We should be like college friends who are movie geeks. Our friend Guillermo says that, in Mexico, when someone makes a movie, all the other filmmakers come together as if a baby were being born. Everyone gets involved in the process. And I think that’s how it should be.”
Then James Cameron reported that Robert Rodríguez was one of the first to see the preliminary version of Avatar: The Path of Water. And not only him but also his children. The also director of Terminator was eager to share his film with them, excited to receive all the notes and opinions that could be used to improve it and deliver an impeccable final version.
Apparently the process worked for him. Avatar: The Path of Water It stands one day after its premiere as one of the most important films of this year. It has already received Best Picture nominations at the Golden Globes and Critic Choice Awards. Two of the most important awards for the Oscars.
Cinema PREMIERE was already able to see the film and if you click here you can read the full review. Return to Pandora will hit theaters on December 15.
