A Japanese company called Ispace has designed a large moon lander that it could travel to our satellite within three years. This company aims to lead the development of a lunar economy.
Withstands the icy temperatures of the Moon
It is based in Tokyo and this creation would be used for the third lunar mission what the company intends to do.
It is the largest lunar module in terms of size and capacity to store payload, measuring almost 3 meters high and 4.25 wide, also including its legs that will help it when it comes to landing.
The ship will be able to carry a load of up to 500 kilos to the lunar surface, but if it is to the lunar orbit, it will be able to withstand a load of up to two tons.
This is the lunar module called Series 2. Its predecessor, the Series 1, can only carry up to 30 kilos of weight.
This new module is designed to be able to endure the cold temperatures on the Moon for at least 14 days. In addition, it has the possibility of landing on any side of the moon, including its polar surfaces.
Ispace wants to enter the NASA program
However, it has other technical systems such as a state-of-the-art navigation system that allows you to land without any problem on the Moon. The company that provides this technology also collaborates with NASA.
Although it is still only a design, Ispace has ensured that the module has already passed the first preliminary design phase. Therefore, now what we have to do is the manufacturing and assembly phase of the different pieces.
The idea of the Japanese company is that this module enter within the NASA program, manufacturing the vehicle in the United States even. In the next two years there will be a couple of lunar missions using the Series 1 that is right now finishing his last steps in assembly.
For this first mission, the full payload capacity is already at full capacity, but for the second, any client still has time to request from Ispace the possibility of entering your cargo in the lunar module.
This new module has been presented shortly after the Japanese company announced that it received financing of almost 50 million dollars. All this money will be used to cover the expenses of both the second and third missions that are planned.
