Nowadays, Brad Pitt He is one of the most respected and successful actors in the industry, no one can deny that. The reputation that he has earned over several decades has allowed him to choose the projects he wants to do, and even produce some stories. However, not everything has been honey and flakes; there was a movie in which Brad Pitt did not feel comfortable at all, so much so that he was about to give up. Ironically, that tape is one of his greatest and most remembered successes.
By 1994, Pitt was no stranger to the industry. Although he did not reach the star level that other actors had, he already had tapes like Johnny Suede and Thelma & Louise. interview with the vampire, based on the successful novel by Anne Rice, hit theaters in November of that year; Pitt shared credits with Tom Cruise, Christian Slater, Kirsten Dunst and Antonio Banderas. The reviews were decent and the movie was a box office success, everything looked great. But, deep down, her protagonist had not had a good time during filming.
“I was disappointed in (the film). Because, in the book, he was a guy trying to figure out who he was, if he’s a god or if he’s the devil. The movie focused more on Lestat’s antics, which were done very well, but my character ended up being dragged from place to place and primed for the sensational moments. And it became more whiny than an actual search. That frustrated me, ”he commented to Rolling Stone.
Basically, his complaints lie in the twist that was given to his character. For Pitt, it was Lestat, played by Tom Cruise, who took the lead in the film thanks to the script. Here his words for Entertainment Weekly
“In the book, this guy (Louis) asks himself, ‘Who am I?’ which probably applied to myself at the time. In the novel, Louis is a guy who goes in search of his discovery. And meanwhile, he has this Lestat character that he loves and hates. They took the best aspects of Lestat and turned them into the pulse of the movie, something good and nice, but there was nothing for me to do but sit and watch«.
The situation was depressing for the actor, whose despair led him to think too drastic a measure: give up interview with the vampire. This he commented to David Geffen, his producer:
“I told him, ‘David, I can’t do this anymore. I can not do it. How much will it cost me to get out?’ Then he said to me, very quietly, ‘forty million dollars´. And I replied: ‘Ok, thanks’. That took my anxiety away. I was like, ‘I’ve got to be a man and get through this, and that’s what I’m going to do,’” she added.
However, not only the narrative of the story complicated his stay in the project. The conditions of the filming also influenced his annoyance. Being a story about vampires, mythology indicated that they should act in the dark most of the time. The late-night shoots went on for far too long, adding to the list of things Brad Pitt was annoyed about.
“It was a difficult shoot. I finished Legends of Passion and went straight into it. First of all, everything was in the dark. In New Orleans we shot for three months in the dark, we shot every night. There’s a scene at the beginning of the movie that happens during the day, and that’s it. The rest was in the dark. And that really started to get into my psyche,” she finished.
can you imagine the movie interview with the vampire without the participation of Brad Pitt? Fortunately, that $40 million was powerful enough to keep him inside the tape. Otherwise, perhaps another actor would have stayed with said fame.
Juan Jose Cruz I am one of those who always defended Robert Pattinson as Batman and can see the same movie in the theater up to 7 times. My guilty pleasure? Low budget horror movie.
