However, the strictest dress rules are for the country’s inhabitants, who dress in clothing from the Islamic tradition.
This is how men and women, visitors and residents, should dress in Qatar.
Dress code for women
Qatari women usually have their hair covered with a black headdress called Shayla, their bodies are covered with a black dress called an abayha. Some older women may wear a niqab—a veil that covers the entire face except the eyes—but it’s not as common anymore.
Burqas—a type of veil that covers the entire body and face, leaving only a mesh for the eyes—are very rare in Qatar.
Dress code for men
As in other Persian Gulf countries, such as Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, Qatari men often wear a Kandurah, a long white robe that covers the ankles. On their heads, they usually wear a ghutra or keffiyha—a cotton headscarf—held by a cord called an agal.
tourist clothing
Tourists visiting Qatar are advised to dress modestly, avoid tight or revealing clothing, and cover shoulders and knees in public. Women do not have the obligation to cover their hair with a scarf, as they do in other countries in the region.
